BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - After undergoing finalization in terms of planning, ITB Jatinangor will be opened starting from the 2011 academic year. This step will make ITB a multi-campus university.

"ITB has accepted 242 employees, lecturers and staff from Winaya Mukti University. This resource needs to be developed soon," said Head of Multi-campus Development Team in Jatinangor, Prof. Indratmo Soekarno.

If all goes well, Indratmo said, ITB Jatinangor will start admitting students starting from this year. Around 200 to 300 students will study in Jatinangor.

Indratmo explained, ITB will open five new departments in the Jatinangor campus; Bio-engineering, Forestry, Farming (all three under the School of Biological Science and Technology - SITH), Environmental Infrastructure and Sanitation, and Water Resources (under the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering).

"These departments are opened specifically to cater the increasing needs in the society."

On quality, Indratmo explained that there will be no difference between Jatinangor and Ganeca. All supporting factors are on ITB's quality standard.

Physical Construction

ITB has spent at least one trillion rupiah for the building of the Jatinangor campus. This includes streets, fences, labs, old building renovation and revitalization, dorm, and many others.

"First year students can stay in dorms, which capacity can take at least 512 students. Students in second year and above need to blend in with the local society."

The Jatinangor campus will abide to the eco-campus criterion; only 20% of the total 47 Ha land will be used for building, the rest will be used for environmental conservation.

The campus is also based on zero delta cue and good drainage so that no rainwater will go to waste. Surface water will be utilized for campus needs.

Indratmo refers to the new campus as a campus that is based on bio-engineering, water engineering, and post-harvest technology.

The Jatinangor campus is also prepared to become a center for mechanical tools innovation, such as creating prototypes or perfecting industrial products.

In 2025, it is hoped that the new campus would have the capacity to take 2.700 students. To connect the Ganeca and Jatinangor campus, ITB will provide several units of bus.
