BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Students from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in the field of Computer Science achieved an impressive accomplishment at the Future Innovation and Discovery Information and Technology (FIND IT) 2023 event. This event was organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DTETI) at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

The winning team consisted of Ahmad Romy Zahran, Firizky Ardiansyah, and Muhammad Fahmi. They achieved third place in the Competitive Programming category. Competitive Programming is a competition that evaluates problem-solving skills using programming languages like C, C++, or Java. Participants are tested on their logical and creative abilities within specific time and memory limits. The competition requires participants to solve computational and programming problems that have specific constraints.

"Our solutions will be evaluated by an autograder, where the more problems solved, the better the score. In case two teams have the same number of solved problems, the time and penalty are considered. The more frequently you submit incorrect solutions, the higher the penalty. The faster you get accepted solutions and the smaller the penalty, the more likely you are to win if the number of solved problems is the same," explained one team member, Firizky.

Firizky explained that their initial motivation to join the competition stemmed from their strong passion for programming. The chance to compete with friends from ITB's Computer Science programme was an extra source of motivation.
The team did not engage in any specific preparation, but they actively practiced and took part in online contests. Firizky mentioned, “We did not have any specific preparation, but individually, we took part in different online contests on platforms such as codeforces.com or others.”

The achievement of third place was not easily attained. It demanded hard work, effective teamwork, and a strong commitment to preparation. The team's success in overcoming the competition's challenges was attributed to both individual preparation and effective collaboration within the team.

In addition to technical preparation, experience was also vital in contributing to the team's success. “We frequently engage in other competitions, and while our victories may not be consistent, each experience provides valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability,” Firizky emphasized the importance of post-competition evaluations for ongoing self-improvement.

This achievement demonstrates the capabilities and dedication of ITB Computer Science students, bringing pride not only to themselves but also to ITB as a whole. We hope that their success will inspire other students to excel and contribute in the field of information technology and computer science.
