ITB and the University Dar Es Salaam Establish Collaboration in Academic and Research Fields

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and the University of Dar es Salaam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday (24/1/2024) at the ITB Rectorate Building, Jalan Tamansari, Bandung. The signing ceremony aims to foster cooperation in the academic and research field.

The MoU was signed by the Rector of ITB, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., and the Vice Rector of the University of Dar Es Salaam, Prof. William Andey Lazaro Anangisye.

The primary objective of this MoU is to develop and implement collaborative activities aligning with the mutual interests of both institutions. The scope of work includes research collaboration involving both parties in research in areas of mutual interest.

Additionally, the MoU encompasses an agreement to exchange academic materials, facilitating access for both parties. Moreover, it supports joint academic meetings to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The University of Dar Es Salaam, the oldest and largest public university in Tanzania, signed this MoU as a step towards strengthening cooperation with ITB. Prof. William Andey Lazaro Anangisye emphasized the significance of this collaboration in providing benefits for both parties.

"We commit to collaborating with Institut Teknologi Bandung to fulfill the objectives outlined in this MoU. The goal of this agreement is to serve as a catalyst for the people of Tanzania, encompassing both rural and urban areas, to benefit from the outcomes of our cooperation," he stated.

Prof. William also expressed his gratitude for the collaboration between these two institutions.

"I am very grateful for this opportunity and for the idea of bringing these two universities together. After signing this agreement, I believe there are two alternative options. Either Institut Teknologi Bandung can send a team to the University of Dar es Salaam to meet with their colleagues there, or the University of Dar es Salaam can send a team to Institut Teknologi Bandung to explore further cooperation possibilities," he continued.

He hopes that the results of this collaboration can benefit the Tanzanian people as a whole. "We are prepared to send a team to explore additional potential fields that could be the focus of collaboration," said Prof. William.

This MoU is valid for five years from the signing date and can be extended for another five years based on mutual agreement. Both institutions aspire that this collaboration will yield substantial benefits for both countries and contribute positively to the advancement of education and research in Indonesia and Tanzania.

In her speech, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah warmly welcomed Prof. William and delegations from the University of Dar Es Salaam. "We invite colleagues from various faculties to collaborate further. We want to better understand Africa, especially Tanzania, and invite students and professors to visit each other," said Prof. Reini.

By signing this MoU, Institut Teknologi Bandung and the University of Dar Es Salaam are embarking on a new chapter in scientific partnership, with the hope that it will lead to significant achievements in the development of science and technology, thereby positively impacting global education.
