Environmental Conservation Exhibition by ITB Ganesha Nature Enthusiast Association

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Attended by nearly 1000 visitors, the exhibition “Melangkah untuk Membumi” was held on Friday, 14 April 2023. It was held at Soemardja Gallery and summarized all the expeditions and community service in Indonesia that were organized by ITB KMPA Ganesha.

At the opening of the exhibition, the ITB Director of Student Affairs, Dr. G. Prasetyo Adhitama S.Sn., M.Sn., gave his appreciation for this event. “It is such great progress for ITB KMPA Ganesha to do activities beyond the campus. They do not simply have fun traveling around, but they are also active in community service and environmental conservation."

Through this public exhibition, visitors can understand the importance of the environment to humanity. They get the opportunity to learn how the existence of mountains, cliffs, caves, and other natural objects affects the lives of people around them. Moreover, they can join the demonstration by the student association on the outdoor activities and community service conducted. Overall, visitors show high enthusiasm upon entering the exhibition.

“People seem very thrilled to try tie-dyed batik. It is to the point that our 16-meter cloth runs out within one day,” the ITB KMPA Ganesha Head of the Cakarawala Division (Design and Publication) Ines Siti Sarah (Biomedical Engineering 2019) recounted. “They are also curious about rock climbing tools owned by our tour guides."

Visitors tried tie-dye batik, a handicraft that has also been taught to victims of the 2022 Cianjur Earthquake.

This exhibition is the result of the association’s teamwork with various parties. “KMPA's contribution in Kupang, Toraja, Suoh, Bayan, and Cianjur is a success with the help of many parties, from government agencies, campuses, and local communities. In addition, there is a unique thing, namely the wall intended for previous builders.

According to the current supervisor of ITB KMPA Ganesha Dr. Ira Adriati, S.Sn., M.Sn, there is a unique wall dedicated to the previous late coach Dr. Pindi Setiawan, M.Si. Known for gladly accompanying his students during their journeys, all Information about him is showcased in the exhibition.

The chief executive of the exhibition, Mikhael Jufri (Ocean Engineering 2021) added that this event was proof of the perseverance of the organizing committee.

“We faced many constraints such as time, human resources, and funds. Fortunately, everything went smoothly thanks to the enthusiasm of many as well as Mrs. Ira’s guidance. When the first day of the exhibition opened, the total number of visitors reached approximately 300 people. Such a number is a milestone, and we are encouraged to do better in the next few days. On the last day of the exhibition, almost 1000 visitors ranging from students, lecturers and the public attended," he said.

The “Melangkah untuk Membumi” exhibition is hoped to encourage students and the public to be more concerned about the environment and be active in its conservation.
