BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – School of Life Science and Technology (SLTS) ITB in cooperation with researchers from the Department of Anthropology Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Indonesia and Biology Study Program Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Universitas Cendrawasih carried out an interdisciplinary study titled "A Tale of Resilience: Reflection of Rise and Fall of Community-based Conservation in Indonesia". This event was supported by the Alliance for Conservation Evidence and Sustainability (ACES).

This study sought to understand the factors that affect the success or failure of communities in encouraging conservation that are in line with their livelihood strategy. The team argued that a resilient social ecology system is the basis for a strong conservation sentiment among communities that live near forests. This research was carried out from early 2022 to 2023 in two provinces, Jambi and Papua.

The documentation and archive of this research were exhibited at a visual exhibition event at Soemardja Gallery, Faculty of Arts and Design, ITB Ganesha. The exhibition which was held from 6 to 11 March 2023 took the visitors to explore conservation, identity, socio ecological relation, shocks, and resilience that are understood and practiced by local communities.

In the exhibition, there are several infographics that explain systems that are used by local communities, from social to economic systems. Moreover, a lot of pictures, handicrafts, and artworks from local communities were also exhibited. The pictures were complemented with visual text to explain their background stories. Citing from the official site at https://resiliencestory.id/, this Visual Ethnography Exhibition is the culmination of this series of research activities, and the mouthpiece to disseminate it to a wider audience.
