Students' Parents Association of ITB (IOM ITB) Hosted Blood Drive
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On Tuesday, the East Common Lecture Building appeared more crowded than the usual days for a good reason: Students' Parents Association of ITB (IOM ITB) in cooperation with Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Bandung Chapter organized a blood drive there. It is part of IOM social commitment and it is planned to be held once every six months. Students, staff, and faculty, as well as members of IOM are all participated in the event.
Most participants seemed comfortable in donating their blood, though some first timers looked reluctant. Some are denied to donate because they didn't met the required blood pulse, or having lack of sleep, or in medication.
Students who are denied to donate made are motivated to get healthier so they could participate in the next event-as Shella from Informatics Engineering remarked, "I have to donate the next time they organize the drive. I have to be more healthy." Among the participants, there are regular donors like Icha from Electronics Engineering, who's been donating her blood since high school. "It's my seventh time," she said.
"This event is IOM's social commitment with students as its main target," said Muttaqin S from IOM, the project officer of the blood drive. "We aim to raise students' social consciousness. PMI relied on donations to provide blood for accidents victims, surgery patients, among others,"
According to Muttaqin, blood drive is one of the easiest and cheapest form of charity. "It's cheap because we give what we already own from our beginnings. It is also our act of gratitude for the health God has bestowed," Muttaqin added.
