SITH-ITB Guest Lecture: The Importance of Seed Testing and Certification
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Undergraduate Program in Agricultural Engineering, School of Life Sciences and Technology, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SITH ITB) once again held a guest lecture for Seed Technology course on Friday (09/04/2021). The lecture discussed Seed Testing and Certification, with Junaidi S.P, Quality Assurance Manager of PT East West Seed Indonesia as speaker.
Junaidi explained the definition and some philosophy of the seed itself. He described seed as a mini beautiful plant and as a “optimism project” which contains pledge.
According to him, there are a lot of processes that affect the quality of seed, starting from breeding until shipment. Junaidi who is a bachelor’s degree graduate of Seed Science and Technology IPB also conveyed the factors that become parameters of seed quality. Those high-quality seeds bring customer satisfaction.
Junaidi also emphasizes the importance of the sampling process. He stated that a valid sample will lead to a valid result, which later will greatly affect the correctness of the test result.
He then explained the stages of test in seed certification. “Seed certification is important, especially because it has become a regulation stated in law,” he said.
After the Q&A session and submission of the award certificate, Junaidi gave a few last messages. “Hopefully, this could be a sign that our agriculture will be more advanced. Graduate soon and prove that agriculture is promising,” he said to the lecture participants.
