BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – One of the cultural units at ITB that is still relatively new, ITBJazz, successfully held a virtual concert titled “Jazz Aula Timur 2022: Music Diaries” on Friday (29/4/2022). The concert was streamed on their YouTube channel, ITBJazz, and managed to attract thousands of viewers. At this concert, there were various performances from 8 bands, 1 guest star, and 1 collective performance for closing.

Since its first exhibition in 2015, the East Hall Jazz Concert has been providing an opportunity for members of ITBJazz to develop. In addition, this annual event is expected to introduce jazz music to the general public. However, the concert has been delayed for 1 year due to the whole pandemic ordeal. This year, the concert presented charity as its theme, of which the proceeds will be donated to Indonesia Care for Cancer Kids Foundation.

“Actually, the concept of charity is intentionally selected so that JAT benefits both ITBJazz’s members and the public. Hopefully, the event can incentivize people to do good deeds,” as described by Ariel Brandon, the head executive of this year’s JAT, from Engineering Physics 2020 during an interview on Wednesday (5/4/2022).

Ariel said that this year’s concert was very special since it was conducted hybridly, with on-stage video shootings which also marked the beginning of offline activities in 2022. Unfortunately, the concert was yet to be attended directly by music listeners due to some circumstances, so there was still no active interaction between the musicians and the audience. Despite this, Ariel hoped that the audience could still make JAT 2022 successful by donating as a form of interaction.

In addition to bringing the concept of a charity concert, JAT 2022 also invited a guest star, namely Anastasya Poetri, a local jazz singer that has just joined Musiversal, a record company in America. The concert, which featured various songs from different eras, also staged an original song composed by the current chairman of ITBJazz, Kirana, entitled ‘Mata Badai’ (English: “The Eye of the Storm”).

For closing, Ariel expressed his hope that JAT 2022 would become a way for members of ITBJazz to develop themselves, as well as a medium for entertainment for all people in the form of musical concerts that have reappeared lately.
