BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Bandung is famous as a city that is comfortable with the cool air and beautiful natural scenery, complete with various tasty culinary. Behind the various appeal of this Flower City, not all people realize that there are active faults with movements ranging from 2-4 mm per year, known as Lembang Fault. This fault splitting Maribaya to Cisarua along 22 km and can potentially trigger an earthquake of up to magnitude 6.5 to 7.0. As an organization working in the field close to the earthquake, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists ITB Student Chapter (SEG SC ITB) through one of its divisions, Social Service, disseminates the earthquake disaster mitigation to elementary school students. On Saturday morning (09/19/2015) SEG SC ITB visited the first school of their targets, namely SDN 4 and 5 Coblong.
Socialization to elementary school students aims to increase awareness of the earthquake early on. In addition to introducing what Lembang Fault is to students in grade 5 and 6, SEG SC ITB also educate them with earthquake mitigation. The committee delivered material with attractive presentations using visual aids in the form of jelly which is described as Lembang Fault block. Students are also guided to simulate rescuing themselves when an earthquake happens through several steps, namely duck, take cover under a table, and get out of the classroom in an orderly manner toward school field. The event ended with games related to the earthquake disaster mitigation materials.

Talita As Sefa as Head of Social Service Division admitted that she's very happy to see the great enthusiasm of students to these activities. Talita also hoped that what they taught can be applied for self-rescue in the event of an earthquake. "With a good understanding, hopefully the number of victims may be lower," Talita said.

After the event, SEG SC ITB provide material and posters on disaster mitigation to put on the school bulletin board. The committee will also hold similar activities for younger siblings at SDN Pancasila, a primary school located in Lembang
District .
