BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – ITB gain achievement in works of art through Dr. Kahfiati Kahdar, M.A., a lecturer and Head of Craft Study Program whose collection was displayed in Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2017 on Tuesday-Monday (21-27/10/17). Her success in bringing her collection into the biggest annual fashion show in Indonesia came from the collaboration between ITB and South Korea Government within Young Creator Indonesia Fashion Institute (YCIFI) program. YCIFI is a short education program that facilitate its participants and mentors to participate in JFW 2017. Kahfiati as a lecturer and director of YCIFI was asked by Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE) to display her fashion collection in JFW 2017.

In the occasion this time, Kahfiati in particular choose baju bodo in her collection. The reason is because Kahfiati is inspired by the trend of kebaya as national attire. With its Modern and simple combination of texture, motif, braids, and silhouettes, baju bodo is applicable for formal and casual occasion. “Baju bodo is also a minor discussion in my dissertation,” she added.

Another distinguishing feature from Kahfiati’s collection in JFW 2017 is white nuance that can be seen in almost every clothes displayed. Regarding this, she said that white is the main color of her collection and it has begun since Kahfiati designed her final assignment for undergraduate program in 1998.

As a lecturer, Kahfiati’s participation in JFW 2017 fosters students’ spirit. Her achievement is expected to motivate textile students to remain dedicated and have strong concept within their works. She also hoped that textile craft students will remain steadfast because textile could be the main feature of fashion. This is proven by the combination of creative fabric (knitted, macramé, tapestry, etc) and Kahfiati’s baju bodo, whose collection will be displayed in international scale event in Hangzhou, China next mid-November.
