PI2TH: Understanding the Integrated Biological Sciences

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id-A series of events for Life Science and Technology Innovation Week facilitated students to have an integrated knowledge on life science. The students were called upon to communicate their thoughts and ideas on life science through paper competition, were facilitated to display their work in the exhibition, and were guided to release the products to the market through seminar on bioindustry's opportunities. PI2TH was conducted by ITB Biology Students Association (Nymphaea) on Friday (19/11/10).

PI2TH consisted of grand final of scientific paper competition; life science product exhibition; also seminar on Opportunities, Prospects, and Challenges on Bioindustry in Indonesia by Dr. Noorsalam Rahman Nganro, M.Sc., lecturer of ITB School of Life Sciences and Technology (SITH) and an expert of ecology and biosystematics. The seminar discussed the techniques to create developed industries from life sciences products.

As explained by Herynda Cempaka Sari (Microbiology 07), the Chief of PI2TH, students of SITH, Biology Department, and Microbiology Department have, in fact, joined numerous scientific paper competitions on life sciences.

"The competitions were held by SITH, ITB, or by institutions other than these two," said Herynda. "Exhibition aims to re-display the students' work to the entire ITB civitas academica."

Aside from displaying the products from competitions, the exhibition also publicized those taken from Nymphaea Profession Week, taken place the previous week in Sumedang.

According to the final adjudication done on Friday (19/11/10), there were winners of basic science category and applied science category. The champion of basic science category was Deti's, titled The Caffein's Effect on Rat's (Mus musculus SW) Sperm and Birth Percentage. The champion of applied science category was Saepudin et al's, titled Oyster Mushroom's Incubation Time Modelling (Pleurotus ostreatus) Using Differential Equation with Maple.
