BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On the 101st anniversary of Technical Higher Education in Indonesia (PTTI) and the Institut Teknologi Bandung, there was a webinar with the theme “ITB for Indonesia’s Digital Transformation” on Thursday (1/7/2021). Dr. Denny Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM as the Director of Resource Management of the Directorate General of SDPPI, Ministry of Communication and Information, were keynote speakers on the webinar.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics hopes for ITB to be at the forefront of creating start-ups in Indonesia to advance digital transformation. With the pentahelix collaboration concept, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics desires joint cooperation between the media, public, local governments, central governments, businesses, and academia.

“I hope that in 100 years, ITB can become the motor of digital transformation in Indonesia. And Indonesia is no longer just a market, but a player,” said Dr. Denny.

As a ministry that handles technological advancement in Indonesia, the Ministry of Communication and Information acts as a regulator (regulation maker), facilitator, and accelerator. This ministry has four focus pillars of digital transformation: infrastructure, government, economy, and digital-based society.

Responding to these critical points, the Ministry of Communication and Information has prepared a strategic plan to increase digital capabilities, encourage digital transformation in the economic and government sectors, and strengthen national security and stability in Polhukhankam.
Throughout 2020-2024, the Ministry of Communication and Information will try to evaluate past programs. One of the priority improvements that undergoing is the procurement of 5G signals in Indonesia.

The existence of 5G has long been applied in more developed countries. With a transformation mission, Indonesia will participate in providing the best service for the country.

“By the end of 2022, the vision is to target all villages and sub-districts in Indonesia to become network-free. The services built by the Ministry of Communication and Information through BAKTI have covered 70,000. There are still 12,000 more,” said Dr. Denny.

Some time ago, the Ministry of Communication and Information held a meeting with all cellular CEOs to provide access and free 4G services throughout Indonesia jointly. This collaboration implies 11,228 and 59,442 3T and non-3T connected 4G villages or kelurahan. This effort shows the seriousness of the government in dealing with this matter.

Also, the government will continue to build a 5G network in Indonesia. In its procurement, a fiberization process is needed, namely the construction of high-pressure optical fiber, and easy access to passive infrastructures such as lamp posts, billboards, bus stops, etc. At the beginning of its release, not all parts of Indonesia could be covered. Therefore, the government will also launch a multifunctional satellite called Satria which will support the people of Indonesia with easy access to network usage, especially 5G.
