BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – ITB students who participate in the 2023 Community Engagement Camp (CEC) have carried out several social projects at the Cilengkrang Village, Bandung Regency. This program is a part of the Character Development course.

Their social projects focused on improving the community’s economy by organizing seminars and workshops on the use of 3R method for organic and inorganic wastes and BSF maggot cultivation as a way to economically manage waste.

The seminar and workshop was held in the Cilengkrang Village Hall on Sunday, 16 April 2023 and was participated by residents from RW 03. The speakers of this seminar, Muhammad Ardhi Elmeidian and Dadan Ramdan, came from the Nusantara Maggot Association.

Both of the speakers talked about the crisis state of waste management in Bandung and Cimahi which worsened every year. They hope that all parties work together to raise public awareness to manage and reduce waste. A BSF Maggot cultivation workshop as a way to process waste into a commercial product was held at the end of the seminar. The residents also participated directly in this workshop and were accompanied by the experts.

This event aims to improve the household waste management in the Cilengkrang Village by introducing organic and inorganic waste sorting and teaching BSF Maggot cultivation for waste recycling purposes to the residents.

The expectation is that this program could reduce the negative impacts from waste to the environment and preserve the environment of RW 03, Cilengkrang Village. In addition to that, these programs are also expected to increase the residents’ income through the sale of BSF maggot from recycled waste.

“We have huge expectations that this program can educate Sir/Madam on how to process household waste into a valuable product and at the same time reduce environmental impact. Through this program, we hope it can provide a new source of income and present new business opportunities from the reach of your house,” said Zefanya Yedija, one of the organizers of this CEC Social Project.
