BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – International Students Mining Competition (ISMC) is an international mining engineering competition organized by the Mining Student Association of Institut Teknologi Bandung  (HMT ITB). This year marks the 14th annual ISMC which held a series of activities, one of which was the Mining Expo.

Mining Expo is an exhibition that covers various aspects of the field of mining. The event serves as a platform for mining companies and other related businesses to showcase their latest products, innovations, technologies, and services related to the mining industry.

This activity was held from Friday to Saturday (23-24/2/2024) at Lapangan Cinta ITB. On the second day of the event, ISMC invited the North Sumatra Cultural Unit (NSCU) ITB to help uplift the audience.

NSCU ITB is one of the student activity units that focuses on the preservation of North Sumatran culture. This unit captivates various activities both inside and outside the campus.

During the Mining Expo, The ITB North Sumatra Cultural Unit performed 7 North Sumatran ethnic dances, including Toba, Karo, Pakpak, Simalungun, Mandailing, Nias, and Malay. This traditional dance is accompanied by a collaboration of modern and traditional musical instruments, such as keyboard, sulim, and tagading.

The performance starts with a Toba Dream instrumental, which was later followed by a series of traditional dances from Malay, Karo, Simalungun, Pakpak, Mandailing, Nias, and Toba. This performance ended with a Sinanggar Tullo dance that invites visitors to join in harmony.

This performance received positive responses from both the dancers and visitors. Dedi Marselino Sitohang, an ethnic Nias dancer said that this performance was quite memorable for him. "Although we were nervous at first, it was really exciting, especially when the visitors joined, and they were enthusiastic as well. Hopefully, aside from the excitement, they can also get to know more about the North Sumatra culture, especially dance and traditional clothes," he stated.

The Head of ISMC Expo and Exhibition Division, Gading Prasada, expressed his appreciation for this unit. "It's really cool, especially the performance. It was completely beyond my expectations. On behalf of the ISMC committee, I would like to thank the North Sumatra Cultural Unit for performing at our event," he said.
