BANDUNG,itb.ac.id - Continuing the Idea Mall I talkshow, Idea Mall 2 talkshow was conducted with the theme, "Making the Most Use of Nation's Potential in Industry-Based and Community-Based Technological Advancement." on Sunday (07/02/10). Located in West Auditorium, ITB, this talkshow invited Drs. H. Suharna Surapranata, MT (State Ministry of Co-operatives and Small Medium Enterprises 1998-1999), and Dr. Ir. Adik Avianto Sudarsono, MSIE (General Director of PT Pindad) to act as the speakers of the talkshow. Shana Fatina Sukarsono, the President of ITB Student Body (Kabinet KM ITB 2008-2009) posed as the talkshow moderator.

In his presentation, Suharna Surapranata talked about the role of government to regulate and to incentify. As a regulator, the government must give its support, in order to synchronize the research and innovation. They should ensure that the creation of the engineers fulfils the industry demand, so the invention will not be futile and will be ready to be released into the market. In addition to that, the government has to give incentive as a stimulus for the development of the products that satisfy the industry demand.

On the other hand, Adi Sasono explained that the problem occurring in the industrial sector is the lack of funding and the low technological advance. To deal with this, cooperation from more parties are required. Government, for instance, can arrange the policy that's pro people, so that strategic assets aren't owned by the foreigners. The policies, too, should not rely only on short-term profits. Industry and engineers can strive for resulting cheap and user-friendly inventions, but still adhering to the current standards and requirements.

PT Pindad: The Dynamic Collaboration for a Solid National Security

The presentation by Adik Avianto Sudarsono began by the introduction of PT Pindad's products, some of which are large and small caliber gun, big and small caliber ammunition, missile, fighting vehicles, and the other defense products. The production and the knowhow of these equipments directly contribute to national security.

Moreover, Adik Avianto Sudarsono said that an independent industry regarding national security is required, in order to reduce the dependency to other nations. He explained that by being dependent, we'll face severe difficulties when the producer country decreases or impedes its production.

The manufacture of the original Indonesian defense product can happen due to the cooperation among government (National Development Planning Agency/Bappenas, Ministry of State Enterprises/BUMN), the consumer (Department of Defense-The Indonesian National Army/TNI AD, The Indonesia navy/TNI AL, and The Indonesian Air Force/TNI AU), research and development institution (research and technology, The Agency For the Assessment and Application Technology/BPPT), and the tertiary education. In the beginning of the manufacture of Indonesian products, there are several things that can be done, some of which are the technology transfer and reverse engineering.

Technological expertise in national security takes time and steps. One of the attainments of PT Pindad happened in 2007, where government gave the order of 150 units of Panser Anoa 6x6, followed by the procurement contract in June 2008 to PT Pindad. This is an accomplished achievement showing that PT Pindad has already got the government's trust.

As a closing of the presentation, Adik Avianto Sudarsono invited the university graduates to participate in developing Indonesia, by joining national corporations. "Indonesia is in need of qualified manpower to continue the national development," he said.
