Introduction to ITB School of Pharmacy’s International Program

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Led by apt. Defri Rizaldy, S.Farm., M.Si. (member of the Pharmaceutical Biology Research Group), SF of ITB (School of Pharmacy) held a sharing session regarding its international study program on Friday (18/2/2022).

Defri described the two study programs offered in SF: Pharmaceutical Science and Technology as well as Clinical and Communal Pharmacy. To earn an S.Farm. (Bachelor of Pharmacy) degree, the curriculum conducted takes place for 8 semesters. Graduates can continue for 2 more semesters if they enroll in the Profession program.

Defri also introduced the research groups formed in SF, such as pharmacochemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical biology, pharmacology/ clinical pharmacy, and sports science. "These five fields are active in contributing to the innovation of pharmaceutical science.”

The conducts of SF’s international study program are slightly different from the regular classes. "Lectures and practicums are taught in English. Students will also have the chance to partake in student exchanges or internships abroad. They can even complete their final assignments or research at partnering universities," Defri described the various international exposure programs facilitated by the faculty.

The international program of SF has coordinated with a wide range of global partners outside Indonesia. "Few to be named are the Oregon State University, Universiteit Leiden, Kyunghee University, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universitat Oldenburg, Mahidol University, Cyberjaya University College, Universiti Teknologi Mara, and more as shown in the presentation," Defri listed. Both study programs in ITB SF are internationally accredited by ASIIN.

The employment prospects of SF graduates are diverse. 39.11% of graduates work in the pharmaceutical industry while 14.89% of them are active in the government sector. Likewise, 10.98% of them work in hospitals, 14.7% pursue their career as pharmacists, 2.66?come researchers, 14.47% taught others as lecturers/teachers, and 3.19% ended up as entrepreneurs. SF itself is home to many well-known entrepreneurs who have expanded the national pharmaceutical industry, namely Rudy Soetikno from Dexa Medica, Nurhayati Subakat from Paragon, Jahja Santosa from Sanbe, and Andi Wijaya from Prodia.

The academic fee of SF’s international program comprises the one-time payment of donations for institutional developments and the semestral tuition fees. Several documents, along with the result of the ITB AQ Test, must be submitted as part of the registration requirements.
