ICMEM 2021, Invites Policy Stakeholders to Share Next Normal Preparation Strategies

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— On August 11-13, 2021, School of Business and Management ITB (SBM ITB) hosted The 6th International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM). Three Ministers were presence as the speakers in this conference. They also welcomed professors, government officials, and representatives of organizations or businesses, as well as communities from both inside and outside the country.

The ICMEM this year is a co-creation forum for domestic and foreign policymakers to communicate critical solutions for preparing the future normal. This serves as the background for implementing the ICME 2021 theme, "Nurturing New Business Landscapes to Embrace the Next Normal."

The conference spanned three days, according to Meditya Wasesa, Chairperson of the ICMEM 2021 Committee, with six parallel presenting sessions filled by prominent session chairs in their disciplines. There are three poster exhibition rooms, as well as three direct discussion sessions with the writers.

The arallel sessions are divided into 19 track chairs, including: Behavioral Decision Making, Business Risk and Finance, Consumer Behavior, Marketing, Strategy and Consumer Studies, Operations and Performance Management, People and Knowledge Management, Sustainability and Innovation, Strategic Management, Advertising, Sales and Branding, Entrepreneurship and Business Model Innovations, Sustainability, Service Marketing, Transportation, Business Model, Technology Commercialization, Service Science, Big Data and Business Analytics, Energy, Impact of IT/IS in Business and Management.

"ICMEM 2021 was able to collect more than 313 scientific papers, of which 242 were chosen to be presented and the rest 71 were presented in a three-day conference," Meditya added.

Yamaguchi University-SBM-YU International Joint Laboratory of Technology Management in Emerging Countries, MDI Ventures Telkom Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, and co-organizing partners from Universiti Teknologi Mara are all behind ICMEM 2021's success.

To kick off the series of events, the Dean of SBM ITB Prof. Dr. Ir. Utomo Sarjono Putro, M.Eng. and the Rector of ITB Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D. opened ICMEM 2021. The first day of the conference began with a keynote speech by Drs. Teten Masduki, Minister for Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises. Then there were two panel discussion sessions, one in the morning for the first panel and one in the afternoon for the second.

Participants were also encouraged to participate in a refresher activity on the first day, which included a Healthy Cooking Class with Devina Hermawan and a Guided Mindfulness Practice with Yoga Leaf, Pudjiastuti Sindhu.

The second day of the conference featured Prof. Kazuhiro Fukuyo (Yamaguchi University) as the keynote speaker and four speakers to enliven the discussion panel, with the theme “How Technology is Changing the Business Landscape to Face the Next Normal.” Dr. G.N., Sandhy Widyasthana, PMP. (MDI Ventures), Nila Armelia, Ph.D. (School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung), Seno Soemadji, S.E., Ak., MBA. (Accenture), and Neneng Goenadi, B.Eng., MBA (Grab Indonesia) are among the four speakers.

In the first panel discussion, participants were also asked to engage in a dialog with the Journals' Editorial Board during the Meet the Editor Panel Session. Participants in this debate were provided with ideas and tactics for publishing papers in respected international journals. Participants were then asked to participate in the afternoon's second discussion panel, "Webinar on Using Technology in Creating Online Learning Materials”, with online learning design professionals from RMIT Online Australia, Anitra Nottingham and Marcelo Zerwes.

The theme for the third day of the conference, which is also the final day of the ICMEM 2021 series of events, is "How to Strengthen Collaboration in the Post Pandemic Business Ecosystem." By introducing the main speaker, Dr. Ir. H. Suharso Monoarfa, Minister of National Development Planning (Head of Bappenas), and six panel discussion speakers. The event was just as exciting as the prior two conference days. Prof. TPr. Dr. Jamalunlaili Abdullah (Universiti Teknologi MARA), Ir. Ahmad Yuniarto (Pertamina Geothermal), and Prof. Ajai Gaur, Ph.D (Rutgers Business School) are among the speakers.

Yos Sunitiyoso, Ph.D. (School of Business and Management, Institut Teknologi Bandung), Dr. William P. Sabandar (President Director of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)), and Prof. Ian Williamson (University of California, Irvine USA) were also present.

On the third day of the conference, participants communicated with one another via a virtual networking room. Surprisingly, the attendees were also welcomed back to the fun workshop with Pudjiastuti Sindhu, Guided Yoga Practice.

The series of conferences concluded with a traditional dance, best presenter award, and closing keynote speech by Dr. H. Sandiaga S. Uno, BBA, MBA, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. Prof. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Chairman of the School Governing Council School of Business and Management ITB, formally ended ICME 2021.

It did not end with the closing of ICMEM 2021; participants also had the option to visit the program, which was held concurrently with the event. A parallel series of presentations from The International Graduates Colloquium (IGC), judging and workshop sessions for the Swiss Innovation Challenge (SICA), and the Indonesia International Conference on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Small Business (IICIES) webinar were amongst the programs offered.
