Four Pacific Alliance Ambassadors Delivered a Seminar in ITB

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung and Pacific Alliance (PA) delivered a seminar on Friday, 26th May 2019. The four countries in Pacific Alliance, Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Colombia were represented by their ambassadors to Indonesia on the seminar.

The seminar took place at Auditorium of Labtek XIV Institut Teknologi Bandung and discussed about potential cooperation between Pacific Alliance and Indonesia as a member associate. Besides students and public, the seminar was also attended by the Regional Secretary of West Java, Iwa Karniwa.

On the occasion, the representative of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Irawati, MS as the Vice Rector of Resources and Organization warmly welcomed the seminar. In her remark, Prof. Irawati asserted ITB’s role in the world as a technology university.

On the seminar, Regional Secretary of West Java, Iwa Karniwa conveyed the excellence of West Java on many sectors, and hoped Pacific Alliance will cooperate with West Java. “We Believe we have the same interest to grow our trade possibility in many sectors,” he said in the reception ceremony.

On the seminar, each ambassador delivered a topic that correlates with Pacific Alliance. It began with Ambassador of Colombia to Indonesia, H.E. Juan Camilo Valencia who explained about the history and background of establishment of Pacific Alliance. The organization was initiated in 2011 with the issued Declaration of Lima.

Ambassador of Mexico, H.E. Armando Alvarez delivered about the role and presence of PA internationally. PA have conducted cooperation with world’s regional organizations such as ASEAN in facing global challenges and promoting businessmen’s role in a country’s economy. They also promote Singapore, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia as associated states of PA.

Ambassador of Peru to Indonesia, H.E. Julio Cardènas delivered a topic about Strategic Vision of Pacific Alliance for 2030. In general, it consists four major aims that PA want to achieve in 2030. The four aims are more integrated, more connected, more global, and more civil minded. These aims are followed by strategic steps that they will take, such as promoting open trade, facilitating investment in associate countries, and preparing for disaster mitigation.

“ITB is an institution that is possible to become a partner in conducted cooperation, looking at ITB’s years of experience as a technology institution and in its relation with dealing with industry 4.0,” said H.E. Julio Cardènas when asked about possible relation between ITB and Pacific Alliance.

H.E. Gustavo Ayares as the Ambassador of Chile to Indonesia delivered a topic about the role of PA in world’s education and the achievements. One of them is PA’s role in giving scholarship to more than 1,000 students.

Yudo Anggoro, Ph.D as a representative from ITB also delivered his presentation regarding development of economy in Indonesia. He began the presentation with Indonesia’s chronologic economic condition during each president’s reign. He thinks that economic condition is closely related to the regulator as the policy maker. This lecturer in School of Business and Management of ITB also delivered about potential investment in Indonesia.

The seminar was concluded with Q&A session before continuing to photo session and dinner.
