BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM ITB) and The Asahi Glass Foundation hosted their annual Grant Ceremony and Research Findings Seminar at the Auditorium East CC on Ganesha Street, Bandung, on Monday (21/8/2023).

This event is a testament to ITB's continuous collaboration with The Asahi Glass Foundation, aimed at generating research and innovations that significantly impact the advancement of science and technology. The collaboration was underscored by the presentation of the 2023 Certification Grant Awards from The Asahi Glass Foundation, which supports 14 research projects at ITB.

During this event, 14 researchers who had received funding from the 2022 Overseas Research Grant Program presented their research findings to The Asahi Glass Foundation as part of their reporting process.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Prof. Ir. I Gede Wenten, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at ITB. Prof. Wenten expressed his gratitude to The Asahi Glass Foundation for its continued support, dating back to 1988. He emphasized ITB's readiness to provide financial support for researchers and hoped that the ongoing research endeavors would have both national and global impacts, further establishing ITB as an institution recognized globally and relevant locally.

Dr. Yuli Setyo Indartono, the Head of ITB's Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM ITB), elaborated on the productive collaboration between ITB and Asahi. This year, the partnership led to the submission of 352 research proposals by ITB researchers. He highlighted the parameters used to evaluate these proposals, including intellectual criteria, alignment with research objectives, anticipated outcomes, and the researchers' track records in their respective fields.

In 2023, 14 out of 50 research proposals were selected to receive funding from The Asahi Glass Foundation.

Mr. Takuya Shimamura, Chairman of The Asahi Glass Foundation, noted that the foundation has a long history with Indonesia and ITB. The Asahi Glass Foundation aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge, technology, industrial progress, economies, and societal well-being in the countries it supports. Mr. Takuya expressed his belief that the research funding program conducted at ITB could significantly contribute to Indonesia's development and expressed hope that an individual from Indonesia would one day win the prestigious Blue Planet Prize award.

Dr. Naoki Sugimoto, Senior Executive Director of The Asahi Glass Foundation, emphasized that this activity is a significant step in the national strategy aimed at enhancing and expanding domestic product development. Naoki assessed that ITB is an ideal platform for Asahi to cultivate its program, and they hope to make substantial global progress in technology, economics, and environmental sectors through upcoming research.
