Geothermal Webinar Forum: Revisiting Kamojang Pressure Transient Data
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Kamojang, a geothermal facility located in Garut, a city in West Java province of Indonesia, for more than 37 years has been one of the nation's top research and production sites of geothermal energy. The site, which is managed by Pertamina, Indonesian national oil and gas company, currently has 93 drilling wells in Mount Kamojang area.
Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Geothermal Master Program presented Geothermal Forum, a series of conferences that aims at educating the public about geothermal energy in Indonesia. The first conference titled “Revisiting Kamojang Pressure Transient Data” was held on Friday (26/3/2021). This conference was moderated by Heru Berian Pratama, S.T., M.T., and presented a Senior Reservoir Engineer of PT Pertamina, Dhanie Marstiga Yuniar, S.T., M.T., as the keynote speaker.
Mr. Yuniar talked about a lot of things regarding Kamojang geothermal facility. He explained the energy-producing activity, drilling activity, and the data-collecting activity of the drilling well on the area. He further explains two important things regarding well-drilling activity. The first one is that the well needs to be drilled at a compatible location. The second one is that the permeability of the soil structure needs to be charted and the SAGS aspect has to be fully considered when choosing the location and constructing the well.
Mr. Yuniar said that on choosing the drilling location, it needs to first gather transient or temporary data, to narrow the search of the right location. “Currently we can monitor and gather more specific data from the potential well,” he added.
To gather the required data, a Well Completion Test is necessary to be done on each field. It is also the main source of transient data on geothermal wells. “Well Completion Test also shows the characteristic of the geothermal well after the drilling is complete,” said Mr. Yuniar.
Mr. Yuniar tells how things had changed in Kamojang after 37 years since it first operated. He said that the data collection activity has become more advanced as more technology and technique is used. Data storing mechanism has also changed, from using the physical archive to using digital storage. Some of the old archives are also being digitized.
Besides, there is a lot of data that needs to be collected and classified for further analytics and comparison. Finally, the well plan simulation and interference test also become a procedure that needs to be done next.
