JAZZVERSITY 2.0 “Swarakarya Nusantara”: A Collaborative Concert Between Campus Musicians of Indonesia
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The COVID-19 pandemic does not hinder music enthusiasts from performing. In fact, this situation inspires university students to organize a recital despite being far away from each other- and the plan was successfully achieved by ITBJazz and ITS Jazz.
First held on 7 September 2020, ITBJazz and ITS Jazz staged another collaborative concert titled Jazzversity 2.0 “Swarakarya Nusantara” on Saturday, 16 October 2021. Many universities in Indonesia contributed to the event, such as Airlangga University, UPH Conservatory of Music, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia University, Surabaya State University, ISI Yogyakarta, and Berklee Indonesian Community from Boston, Massachusetts.
This year, the Jazzversity committee planned to reach out to more musicians, campuses, media, and the government itself with its multi event concept. Thus, Jazzversity 2.0 began with pre-events that lasted for a month before the main event, including IG Live, podcasts, cover challenges, talk shows, and workshops. In addition, they were featured by famous musicians such as Dwiki Dharmawan, Sri Hanuraga, Dira Sugandi, and more.
In his opening speech, Muhammad Baliyan Ardzabily, Head Committee of Jazzversity 2.0, stated that collaboration should be the new language in the creation of music. “With Jazzversity, I hope campus musicians from all over Indonesia can unite and compose something big for the country in the future.”
The main event of Jazzversity had the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. H. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, B.B.A., M.B.A., to attend as the keynote speaker. “Through this event, everyone can enrich themselves, contribute in reviving national events, and empower those working in event planning industries who are affected by the pandemic and rely on the current creative sectors,” he expressed his appreciation through his speech.
Besides showcasing the performances, Jazzversity 2.0 opened a donation via Aksi Cepat Tanggap to aid smaller enterprises that were affected by the pandemic. Both students and artists played famous songs from local musicians such as Rizky Febian, Isyana Sarasvati, Tompi, RAN, Chrisye, The Groove, dan Reza Artamevia.
