The digital economy laboratory is established as the result of cooperation with Indosat Ooredoo. Among the attendees of the inauguration were Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, Professor in STEI-ITB, Dr. Ir. Suhono Harso Supangkat, M.Eng., Dean of STEI-ITB Prof. Dr. Ir Jaka Sembiring M. Eng., and Director and Chief Innovation Officer of Indosat, Arif Musta’in.

After the inauguration, Rector of ITB said that the laboratory will bring benefits to the nation’s progress. People of every class will savor from the benefit to achieve democratization of information and knowledge.

On the same occasion, Minister Airlangga Hartanto said that the laboratory is expected to give birth to many ideas in innovation, product design reference, and solution that respond to cases regarding IoT. It is the first Future Digital Economy Lab under a program initiated by Indosat Ooredoo Business.

The minister also addressed a topic about making Indonesia 4.0 which aspires to get Indonesia out of middle income trap in 2030. He said that similar labs have existed in Indonesia, especially the ones built by communication companies.

He said that Indonesia has big potential especially its millennial generation. The lab will respond to challenges in Industry 4.0. “The aspiration of industry 4.0 is to bring Indonesia as the biggest economy in 2030 with 10% export raise for manufacture products, raise of productivity and build innovation capability, where the budget is expected to raise for 2%,” he said.

This is the first digital economy laboratory established by ITB under a program initiated by Ooredoo. The aim is to support the government of Indonesia to build human resources especially the young generation in facing industry 4.0. It is also a place for stakeholders to develop appropriate IoT-based use case, which can enhance nation’s economy.

Director and Chief Innovation Officer of Indosat, Arif Musta’in said that the lab is expected to generate ideas in innovation, product design reference, and solution that respond to cases regarding IoT developed in industry scale for various needs such as product development, services, manufactures, marketing, etc. “Moreover, talent development programs and digital-based future economy incubation can be generated in the laboratory,” he said.
