ITB Supports Sustainable Development through ITB SDGs Network

A member of the team, Dr. Tirto Prakoso said that ITB SDGs Network aims to support the achievement of global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support the implementation of SDGs in Indonesia until 2030 and beyond, as well as support ITB’s participation in technology and accelerate the achievement of SDGs Goals.

The SDGs Network has a vision to be a leading and prominent center in the effort of creating excellent and prosperous people of Indonesia through the achievement of SDGs goals. “The mission is to be the bridge between ITB academics, Indonesia, and the world to contribute technology expertise for the achievement of SDGs goals. And then providing technological solution in many fields,” said Tirto.

As a technical higher education in Indonesia, ITB has a significant role in the achievement of SDGs goals. Technological approaches should be involved to accelerate the achievement of SDGs in 2030. “ITB as technical higher education in Indonesia is very significant to support the achievement of SDGs goals in Indonesia, in terms of innovation and technology implementation to the people of Indonesia,” he said.

The launching of the SDGs Network was conducted by Rector of ITB and Minister of National Development Planning, Prof. Bambang Brodjonegoro who also serves as National Coordinator of SDGs in Indonesia.

Prof. Bambang Brodjonegoro suggest the network to focus on discovering renewable energies to lead to energy security. Besides discovering renewable energy sources, the efficiency should also be taken into calculation.

“ITB is complete, but we shall direct its focus in realizing energy security in Indonesia. The energy should be renewable and sustainable. The solution would be to explore everything. The battery of solar cell, the price of green diesel, the various types of bio max producible in Indonesia,” he said in his remark.

Currently, PT. Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (persero) signed MoU with ITB to support through their funding platform, SDGs Indonesia One, which is a Ministry of Finance’s initiative to push sustainable development in Indonesia.

ITB SDGs Network will spearhead many cooperation with similar international networks in foreign universities. It is expected that knowledge received from foreign countries can be adjustably implemented in Indonesia.
