ITB Announces Labtek III Matthias Aroef Building
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Many constructions and renovations have been executed in ITB during the last few years. One of those is Labtek III located in northwestern part of ITB’s Ganesha campus. The building accommodates daily lectures to Industrial Engineering program, Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering and Management (Master and Doctor) and Logistics (Master). After renovation process for about a year, the building is officially opened on Saturday (25/03/17) and was re-named to Gedung Labtek III Matthias Aroef in appreciation to the contribution of Prof. Dr. H. Matthias Aroef, MSIE, IPM to Industrial Engineering sciences in Indonesia. The official ceremony was attended by many, namely Prof. Matthias and family, representatives of Board of Trustees of ITB, representatives of Academic Senate, the Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA and board of rectors, representatives of the Dean of Faculty of Industrial Technology, and lecturers and students of Industial Engineering and Engineering Management programs.
The ceremony began with the explanation behind the re-naming to Labtek III Matthias Aroef building by Vice Rector of General Administration, Alumni and Communication of ITB, Dr. Miming Miharja, ST, M.Sc, Eng. He explained that it takes a proper preparation before naming a building of ITB. Lead by Prof. Ir. Bermawi Priyatna Iskandar, M.Sc, Ph.D., a name implementation team was formed in June 2016. Prof. Matthias’s name was suggested and offered before being finally processed and approved in November 2016.
The event continued with a speech by the Head of Society of Industrial Engineering of ITB who is also the Head of Industrial Engineering Study Program of ITB, Dr. Ir. Sukoyo, MT. He said that since its initiation by Prof. Matthias and official announcement in 1971 in ITB, there have been 197 Industrial Engineering study program all around Indonesia. In the following speech, the Rector of ITB who is also a former student of Prof. Matthias said that Prof. Matthias inspires him to lead ITB develop from research university to entrepreneurial university. The Rector expressed his respect and admiration for Prof. Matthias and hoped the re-naming into Labtek III Matthias Aroef will inspire other ITB academicians to contribute in science as Prof. Matthias did.
After the Rector’s speech, the event continued with the granting of decree to Prof. Matthias and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Afterwards, Prof. Matthias who gave his words expressed his gratitude for utilizing his name to Labtek III Mathias Aroef and thanked everyone that came to the ceremony.
