ITB is Invited to Compete in World United Nations Simulation

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - ITB delegations for Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) held a press conference on Thursday (07/02/13). Located at Rapim A Room Annex Building ITB, this press conference explained the preparations of the team to compete with world's best universities in HNMUN which was held on Thursday-Sunday (14-17/02/13). This year's HNMUN took place in Boston, Massachussetts, where ITB delegations represented Armenia, a country with complicated conflicts.

HNMUN is an international world United Nations simulations competition organized by Harvard International Relations Council. Three thousands students from the best universities all around the world such as Yale, Oxford, Stanford, and US Military Academy at West Point were participating this prestigious competition. In this competition, all of the students will exchange their knowledge and opinions, and discuss various global problems. This world United Nations simulation has been held for more than 50 years, and featuring transnational diplomacy in solving the problems.

In HNMUN 2013, ITB represented Armenia, a country with its complicated conflicts. Baya I. Inngas (Chemical Engineering 2011), head delegate of the team this year, said that in HNMUN 2013, ITB delegations would discuss various world issues such as laws, human rights, and health from the perspective of Armenian.

ITB delegations team who was competed in HNMUN 2013 had passed stringent selection tests which were conducted since March 2012. The 5 months tests had succeeded in filtering 17 best students from 335 applicants with 5 stages. The selection tests consists of making an essay about Syria, pre-interview, presentation the solution about Kony 2012 issue, caucus (world united nation council simulation), and final interview.

After formed in July 2012, team conducted a weekly training and joint training with Universitas Padjajaran and Universitas Parahyangan. Besides that, team was also participating Indonesia Model United Nations competition which was held in Universitas Indonesia in last October and brought home 1 best delegate award, 2 outstanding delegate awards, and 1 best position paper award. This team was also conduct a national joint training which was participated by delegations from Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya, and President University.

In last HNMUN 2012, ITB delegations drew a remarkable achievement in winning the honorable mention award by Hendra Kwik (Chemical Engineering 2008). "This year, we set a goal to win the honorable mention award again. With well preparations and satisfying training, we also hope to win more awards in this year's HNMUN," said Baya.
