BANDUNG, itb.ac.id -- ITB Petroleum Engineering students from Society of Petroleum Engineer (SPE) ITB Student Chapter successfully achieved notable distinction in Oil and Gas Intellectual Parade (OGIP) 2012. Announced in the grand final, Saturday (03/03/12), ITB had won the first place on Smart Student Competition, second and third place on Student Paper Contest, and runner-up on Plan of Development (POD) Competition.

"Alhamdulillah, our goal is achieved," said Muhammad Ramadhan (Petroleum Engineering 2008), the head of Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Perminyakan (HMTM) PATRA ITB (Student Association of Petroleum Engineering--red). On this Asia Pacific-scale competition, Nugroho Triveda Fajri (Petroleum Engineering 2008), Brian Christiantoro (Petroleum Engineering 2008), and Budi Khoironi (Petroleum Engineering 2008) from ITB won the first place on the Smart Student Competition.

The runner-up position on the POD Competition was saved by Muhammad Ramadhan (Petroleum Engineering 2008), Bayu Alfian (Petroleum Engineering 2008), Satria Andrianata (Petroleum Engineering 2008), Fatkhur Rahman (Petroleum Engineering 2008), and Muhammad Habibi (Geological Engineering 2008). The second and third place of Student Paper Contest are achieved by Singgih Suganda (Petroleum Engineering 2008) and Hafiz Adi Kurnia (Petroleum Engineering 2008) respectively.

Knowledge Comprehensivity Test

POD Competition demanded the participants abilities in knowledge about petroleum industry. "We were required to develop a working area especially to improve production and consider the economical aspects," said Ramadhan. He added that mature geological study and reservoir analysis were needed to improve the production besides the consideration of the price of selected method. Complexity, originality, and feasibility were the three factors guiding Singgih and Hafiz to grab the victory. Hafiz in his paper proposed technological innovation in deep ocean drilling through Dual Gradient Drilling method. Singgih, in other hand, explained his research with two of his friends: Fatkhur Rahman (Petroleum Engineering 2008) and Ade Anggi N.S. (Petroleum Engineering 2009) about the analysis of pressure drop effect from the friction on the horizontal drilling well to the result of Inflow Performance Relationship (IFR) equation.

On this annual event of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Yogyakarta, the participants were coming from various nations such as Malaysia and China. Their participation was increasing the competition atmosphere. Malaysia won the first place on the Student Paper Contest, while China succeeded to the preliminary round on the Smart Student Competition.
