ITB Pioneered Hockey In Indonesia
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Invitation to the 26th field hockey among Universities (26th IHRPT) has been commenced. Here, 39 teams from 18 universities in Indonesia compete to steal the trophy this year. The category that is being competed in this hockey tournament are male, female, and mixed. The competition system is semi-tournament. The Tournament is being held in ITB Assembly or Gedung Serba Guna (GSG) ITB on Monday until Thursday (19-29/09/11) "This hockey event is actually one of the ways to maintain the ties among universities, especially this is the oldest competition in Indonesia. One of the leturers in ITB is the one who introduced and brought field hockey to Indonesia." said Husam as one of the committee to the ITB News Office during one of the games.
Husam also added that this tournament is the oldest hockey tournament that has a prestigious reputation and one of the awaited tournaments. This 26th IHRPT has experienced lots of improvement from year to year, with the level of sportiveness that increases, the increase number of participants, and more competitior coming from universities outside the region.
It's not about the prize, it's more about the tradition! Stated Husam on the meaning of this IHRPT.
ITB and its part in Hockey
The Arts and Design Faculty lecturer, Primadi Thabrani, was the first man who brought hockey to Indonesia. He taught ITB students at first and this is how IHRPT first proposed and became the oldest competition.
In IHRPT is not just the good relations among universities that is being pursued, but the lesson on hockey is also taught. One of the lesson is from the referee system from every universities who participated in this tournament. This system requires every participants to send a referee, and this referee will be taught how to lead a match. In his lesson, it his hoped that the referee can give what he has learned in ITB back to his university.
