BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Three students from the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Muhammad A. Aufa Al Ghifari (13020041), Michael Yoe (13020047), and Amaris Rea Amanda (13421042), won a title on the 24th Indonesia Accounting Fair “Fostering Adaptability: Overcoming Climate Change Challenges”, business case competition category, that was held by the Faculty of Economy and Business Universitas Indonesia.

In this international-scale competition, they managed to win first place after proposing brilliant solutions for tackling climate change caused by emissions from industrial processes.

This competition started from December 2022 until March 2023 and consisted of three stages: qualification, semifinal, and final. During the qualification stage, the team was required to create a scientific article that contains their solution to a case-problem of a pulp and paper company.

In the semifinal and final stages, Al, Yoe, and Rea proposed a solution to emission problems from a palm oil company in the form of a pitch deck. With their background in Engineering Chemistry and Industrial Engineering, they proposed a solution to increase agricultural efficiency of palm oil plantation and designed a sustainable plantation educational program for local farmers. Their ideas managed to bring them the first place in this competition.

In an interview with ITB PR Reporter on Monday (27/3/2023), Al said that the final stage of this competition was held live in Jakarta from 4 to 5 March 2023. On 4 March, all semifinalists participated in a company visit to PWC, a multinational consulting firm that became one of 24th IAF partners. Also on that day, 5 teams from a total of 15 finalists that made it into the final stage were announced.

When asked about their obstacles, Al answered that there were no major problems that their teamwork cannot face.

“IAF duration was quite sufficient, the semifinal stage spanned over two weeks, we managed to spare some time in those two weeks span. Maybe the biggest problem was in the final stage, we were only given 2 hours to work on the case and train for the presentation,” said Al.

He also added, the core of teamwork in this competition is managing time and working together effectively, especially in the middle of their busy academic and nonacademic schedule.
