Gita Wirjawan Light The Student's Spirit in Studium Generale

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Monday (29/04/13) ITB received an honorable guest, Minister of Trade Republic of Indonesia, Gita Wirjawan, MBA,MPA. On this one of a kind opportunity, Gita brought the theme "Technology, Democracy, and Consumer's Safety". Studium Generale that was held frequently on the West Hall was truly fulled by . Numerous students of Studium Generale rushed to occupy the seats and along with them, there were also D3 students who attend the event. Cameras and its flickering lights were also there to follow one of the most anticipated guest lecture in the Studium Generale.

 

The Studiun Generale started by an opening remarks from Prof. Akhmaloka, Ph. D. Then, from the prolog by the moderator, Ir. Hermawan Kresno Dipojono, MSEE, Ph.D, Gita came forward and started his speech on the podium. He commenced by talking about Korean and USA and how they had managed to be an advanced nation. Korea was never expected to be what it became today when we go back in 1960s. They struggled to initiate production economy in many fields, especially in manufacture. But with the change of paradigm, both in government mental and effort form private sector, they came to the big picture where there must be a time for Korea'sbetter future.

Indonesia today, who had the 15th rank of GDP must also excells in the global world. To fulfill the dream, inovation and incubator of ideas were really crucial. According to Gita, ITB as an established technology institute had a big part of making excellent breakthorugh to develop Indonesia. "We have to be a relevant nation. We have to be proud of ourselves," said Gita. With the assumption of economic growth rate and ifnlation rate for 5%, indonesia is projected to land on the 5th rank of GDP in the world. This hypothesis shall be a big motivation to gear up our nation's engine to make something out of Indonesia.

In this studium general, Gita staed that Indonesia was a big nation and full of potential. Our GDP was bigger than Malaysia, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia. Therefore we must not afraid to compete with other nation. "You are bigger than you think. You have to shoot for the stars!," said Gita. The minister, who enjoy jazz music and has an energic approach, seems to mesmerized the crowds and change students mindset about many things. As the future leaders, students must be able to act and change the condition only in that fashion we can fulfill this country's ambition to become the world next leader.
